Police have released the identity of a Sydney woman whose body was discovered at a Hunter's Hill playground last week.

Investigators are seeking information from the public on the movements of Nicole Cartwright in the hours and days prior to her death.

The 32-year-old's body was discovered by a council worker in Buffalo Creek Reserve at Hunter's Hill on Sydney's lower north shore last week.

Drag marks of up to 30 metres were discovered near her body, which was covered in leaves and wrapped in an orange blanket.

Police say her hands were bound and her body was badly bruised but have not yet determined exactly how, or when she died.

"It's quite possible she was placed there on the 2nd or early on the 3rd [of October]," Homicide Squad Commander Scott Cook said.

"We need the help of the community.

"One of their fellow citizens has been murdered in an outrageous way."

Ms Cartwright was last seen on September 30 where CCTV footage captured her leaving Museum Station in Sydney's CBD.

Commander Cook said detectives were trying to piece together her movements between September 30 and October 3.

"She was well liked, she was a free spirit, she certainly travelled around a lot on the Sydney trains system," Commander Cook said.

"She had a wide range of friends and associates and it's particularly important that we hear from those people, we need to understand her and her background in detail."

The Lansvale woman was reported missing by her parents on October 4, the day after her body was discovered.

"When we have these horrendous offences that occur on members of the community, we can't tolerate that," Commander Cook said.

Ms Cartwright's brother Ben took to Facebook today to express his anguish over her death.

"It is with very sad and heavy hearts we announce our beloved daughter, sister and friend Nicole has sadly passed away.

"Rest in peace my little sister! I love you with my all."

Homicide detectives are still searching for her killer.

Locals were shocked last week to find the popular park — which includes a soccer pitch, bike track and flying fox — sealed off with police tape.
