If you ever need to know anything about the MCU, just hang onto every word uttered by the cast during the press tours.
We all know that Mark Ruffalo spoiled the entire ending to Avengers: Infinity War before the film had been released, but it looks like Robert Downey Jr gave away the title of the finale of the franchise before Age Of Ultron was even released.
In an unearthed clip from the Age Of Ultron press tour in 2015, the actor uttered the word Endgame, predicting the eventual title of the fourth installment in the series.
Marvel fan @ImAFilmEditor asked: Before @Avengers 2′ release, “Endgame” was still in everyones consciousness. Its a term used by @RobertDowneyJr to express that Ultron would be the key to give the #Avengers a chance to live normal lives. Is the teams purpose in defeating Thanos the same key?
In the interview, Downey Jr said: Hes working on a system that will make it so the Avengers dont really have to do what theyve been doing all along, which purportedly should be the end game.
This also predicted a line said by Tony Stark in Age Of Ultron: A hostile alien army came charging through a whole in space. Were standing three hundred feet below it. Were the Avengers. We can bust arms dealers all the live long day but that, up there, thats the endgame.
The title of Avengers: Endgame was kept under wraps until the first trailer drop on 7 December, and it turned out we were duped by the Russo Brothers.
Although many people had predicted that Endgame was the title, the directors denied this, and when asked by Uproxx if the Avengers 4 title was mentioned in Infinity War, Joe Russo said no.
However, we were being bamboozled, as Doctor Strange memorably said: Were in the end game now.
Can we trust anybody anymore?
