Chace Crawford has revealed he came so close to screen testing for the role of Captain America before Chris Evans owned the Marvel role.

We know Steve Rogers only being played by the mighty Chris in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however Chace previously explained his role on Gossip Girl prevented him from joining the superhero universe.

Now hes gone so far as to claim there was even a suit with his name on it.

Appearing on Watch What Happens Live, Chace was asked by a viewer if he was salty he didnt land the Avengers job.

I did have a screen test for that back in the day, but they actually didnt let me do it because they realised I was on a show in New York [Gossip Girl] for nine months of the year, Chace explained.

Got like a screen test deal.

Buddy of mine told me he went in there and they had a suit made with my name on it and the whole thing.

He added: And yeah after nine films Im thinking, “Oh man, Id have loved a shot at that”.

While Chace would have made a fine Cap, we can only assume in our imaginations, Chris was a legend in that role.

Its not the first time the Nate Archibald actor has opened up on missing his shot at donning the lycra and becoming Americas A** though.

No, whats funny is, I was on Gossip Girl at the time. Being on a network TV show, youre shooting it nine months of the year, and I did get an offer to do a screen test. [Marvel] had no idea, if I remember correctly, that I was contracted on the show, he told Vulture earlier this year.

We obviously had to tell them. And there was just no way, even if they wanted to cast me, that it wouldve worked out time-wise. So, couldnt do it. Never ended up doing the screen test, actually.

He added: …seeing the way that those movies turned out … I didnt have much of a choice it appears, but thats life. Thats what it is.
