Priyanka Chopra has had a pretty busy time over the past year, what with getting married to husband Nick Jonas and landing a brand new movie deal with Netflix, but shes also had time to make her return to Bollywood as both a performer and co-producer.

Ahead of premiering her new film The Sky Is Pink at the Toronto International Film Festival, Priyanka – who makes her return to Bollywood after three years and also gets her first credit as a co-producer on the movie – has shared how she was drawn to the project as to was something that she knew had to be done.

To do a film like this, you need time to prep and time to get to it. So, I couldnt do a movie and specially a Hindi movie, she told IMDB.

I was really looking for an immersive experience as an actor and in any kind of movie. Whether it was in America or India. And when this [film] came along, it struck on so many levels for me and checked so many boxes that I just knew it had to be done.

A Sky Is Pink is based on the real-life story of Aisha Chaudhary, who became a motivational speaker after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 13 and traces the love story of her parents as told through their daughters eyes. Priyanka Chopra plays the role of Aditi Chaudhary, a mental health therapist and Aishas mother.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she also shared how making the film was an honour and how the film was the first to use her new married name of Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

It was such an honour, she said. This film is — I cant explain it. Especially on so many levels, not just because of what it talks about and how real that is to me, but also the fact that I feel like its a little bit of my home, because Im producing it with two of my closest friends.
